Hi Alice – I hope this isn’t a homework question *grin*
Australia has a huge capacity for geothermal energy – but right now very little of it is actually being used. One example is some new apartments being built in South Australia, just outside of Adelaide, where geothermal energy will provide heating, cooling and hot water to the residents – which will save them hundreds of dollars in power bills.
There are lots of places where geothermal energy is used – there’s a plant in South Australia that’s being developed at the moment. And there are power plants in the United States, and Iceland uses a lot of geothermal energy! It’s a very low-pollution way of generating power and heating.
