Certainly most cats and dogs don’t like each other, but some do. I’ve known cats and dogs that play together and sleep next to each other, usually when they grow up together.
I think it mostly comes down to nature. Often domestic cats are smaller than domestic dogs. In the wild the dog would be a predator and so the cat sees it as a threat. Even though your dog is well fed and has no interest in eating you cat, the cats nature is to protect itself from things that are bigger and could eat it.
Cats usually ignore small dogs, presumably because they don’t see them as a threat.
