There are a lot of scientists who have shown that liquorice can cause high blood pressure, and chemists have identified the active ingredient in liquorice as glycyrrhizic acid. Another problem is that this ingredient in liquorice can also interfere with the drugs people take to treat high blood pressure. So some doctors suggest that anyone on high blood pressure medication should avoid eating large amounts of liquorice.
Of course, everything in moderation, but eating large amounts of liquorice everyday might not be good for you. Thanks for this question – now I’ve learnt something too!
