Hi Tyjade! I have studied malaria for about 6 years now. One of the main illnesses malaria causes is anemia, due to a lack of red blood cells. I did my PhD project on the ways that malaria causes anemia, and how to prevent it happening during malaria infection. That took about 4 years, and I got my PhD! Yah!
Then I went to the UK and worked on a different disease called Leishmania, which is caused by a different kind of parasite, but still affects people in developing countries. I lived in England for about 4.5 years – but I missed home!
So then I came back to Melbourne to work on a malaria vaccine, and I have been doing this work for just over a year now.
Thanks for all you questions – K
