Question: Why does time go slowly when your watching a clock but when you are doing something fun it past really fast??

  1. Nice question bronto! Did you know that Einstein once decribed the theory of relativity in that way? He said “Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, it feels like a minute. Sit on a hot stove for a minute it feel like an hour – that’s relativity!” [Please do not try this at home]. But I think your question is really about our perception of time. We don’t notice it flying by when we are having fun because we aren’t paying attention to it. But when we do sit down and watch a clock, we have nothing to distract us, really, and so we really understand how long a minute takes – and how long it feels! I have a lab timer, and some of the experiments I do have one-five minute breaks. So I use the timer to keep track. I learned pretty fast how many things I could do in one minute!
