Question: Who gave you the most inspiration as you started your career in the area of science?

  1. The people who gave me the most inspiration early in my career were my honours and PhD supervisors. They are successful scientists and leaders in their fields and inspired me to develop myself as a scientist. I still look to their advise as I continue to work towards becoming a leader in my own fields of research.

  2. When I first started doing malaria research I went to Kenya to do some research at a hospital there. For the first time malaria wasn’t just something I looked at down the microscope in the lab, it was a serious disease that killed people. I saw the people in the hospital who had malaria, the mothers and babies, and I realised I wanted to make sure my research mattered. So that is what motivates me to keep working on malaria now.
