Question: do animals also contain malaria? if not why?

Keywords: ,

  1. Hi Drogba!

Animals do have malaria – but they each get their own type. Birds get bird malaria, lizards get lizard malaria, mice get mouse malaria and humans get human malaria. But they can’t switch, humans can’t get lizard malaria and birds can’t get human malaria.

Why? Well malaria is a parasite, and parasites depend on their host to survive, and each type of malaria has adapted itself to suit each particular host. So human malaria has developed specifically to suit living inside people..

There might be one exception to the rule… recently it has been found that people can catch one type of monkey malaria! That’s what I love about science, it can always surprise you!
