Well, the main reason was seeing some of the fantastic research being conducted at Queensland Uni of Technology on skin cancer patients and seeing some of the new technology that’s available for studying skin!
It made me quite sad seeing the number of people who get dangerous skin cancers like melanomas every year, and how many of those actually end up dying.
Sometimes, it’s due to lifestyle such as an outdoor job or using a solarium or tanning bed which has brought on the cancer, but in a lot of cases, doctors are still unsure about what can increase your risk of getting a skin cancer.
This was my main motivation – to try and create a model that scientists can use in the lab to investigate how skin cancer forms and why.
